Meet the Rockdoor Byron: A Bolder Take on a Classic Front Door

Rockdoor has added a new door style to its Traditional Range, and it is one we think will suit plenty of homes across Dundee, Angus, Fife and Perthshire.
The new Rockdoor Byron takes its inspiration from the popular Jacobean, keeping the balanced proportions and traditional character while introducing larger glass panels and a slightly bolder look.
It is a front door replacement that still feels classic, but with more light, cleaner detailing and enough flexibility to sit comfortably on both traditional and more contemporary homes.

Inspired by the Jacobean, Made Bolder
The Byron follows a familiar four-panel layout, with two glazed panels above two solid panels.
Where it differs from the Jacobean is in the scale of the glass. The Byron’s glazed panels are approximately 30% larger, allowing more natural light into the hallway and giving the outside of the door a brighter, more open appearance.
Rockdoor has also updated the moulding around the panels, creating a cleaner finish that helps the Byron bridge the gap between traditional and modern design. This gives it plenty of versatility. It could work just as well on an older stone property or traditional family home as it could on a newer house that needs a little more character at the entrance.
A Traditional Finish Without the Timber Upkeep
The Byron is finished in Rockdoor’s Forest Grain texture, designed to recreate the appearance and character of a traditional timber front door.
You get the visual warmth of a woodgrain finish without the repainting, staining and ongoing maintenance associated with an older wooden door. The composite construction is designed to retain its appearance while standing up to everyday use and changing weather conditions.
The style can then be shaped around your home through the choice of colour, glass and door furniture.
A softer neutral can give the Byron a calm, understated look. Traditional greens and woodgrain finishes bring out its classic character, while black, blue or deeper greys can make the larger glazed panels feel more striking.
Choose the Glass That Works for Your Home
The extra glazing is one of the Byron’s defining features, but it does not mean compromising on privacy.
The door is available with a range of decorative and obscure glass options, including new designs such as Pillar, Infinity, Solstice and Eclipse. These sit alongside Rockdoor’s broader glass collection, giving you control over how much light, pattern and privacy you want.
Glass can change the personality of the door more than you might expect. A simple obscure design keeps the overall look clean, while decorative glass can lean further into the Byron’s traditional styling.
You can experiment with different combinations using our Rockdoor designer, allowing you to try colours, glass and finishing details together before narrowing down your favourites.
Built Around Rockdoor Security
The Byron may be new, but underneath the design is the same security-led construction that sets Rockdoor apart from many standard composite doors.
Every Rockdoor is made to measure rather than manufactured in a standard size and cut down to fit. This helps protect the strength of the complete door system while creating a precise fit for the property.
Rockdoor’s security construction includes:
A reinforced aluminium inner frame designed to provide greater strength than a standard composite door
Multi-point locking with nickel-coated brass hook locks engaging into steel keeps
A TS007 3-star Diamond Secure cylinder
S-Glaze technology, which permanently locks the glass into the door rather than holding it inside a removable glazing cassette
Rockdoor states that its reinforced inner frame is 60% stronger than that of a standard composite door. The integrated S-Glaze system also makes it considerably harder for the glass to be removed from the outside.
It all contributes to the solid, reassuring feel people expect when they close and lock a premium front door.

Designed to Keep More Warmth Inside
A new front door should do more than improve the appearance of your home. It should also help the entrance feel warmer, quieter and less exposed to draughts.
Rockdoors are constructed using a 50mm-thick door sash, thermally efficient PVC-U skins, a high-density polyurethane foam core, performance gaskets and a multi-chambered frame. These elements work together to reduce heat loss through the door and around its edges.
S-Glaze also has a role in thermal performance. Because the glass is integrated directly into the door, there is no conventional glazing cassette creating another potential route for cold air or draughts.
Selected Rockdoor configurations can achieve an A-rated energy rating, although the final performance will depend on the door style, glass and threshold selected. That balance of security, warmth and design is what makes Rockdoor different from a more standard composite door.
Designed Around Your Home
The Byron is a good example of how much difference the details can make.
The same door can feel traditional, soft and understated in one combination, then much more contemporary in another. The right choice depends on the style of the property, the surrounding windows and brickwork, how much privacy you need and the impression you want the entrance to create.
