The Story Behind The Upgrade
We’ve been working with Andrew’s family near Arbroath to make their period home warmer and more comfortable - taking things one room at a time.
The original back entrance - the door most used for everyday family life - featured ageing double doors that had become noticeably draughty, particularly during the colder months. With family members and pets moving in and out throughout the day, the entrance needed to feel stronger, more secure and better suited to daily use.
After exploring styles together, they chose the Rockdoor Colonial - a design that complements the character of the property while offering the solid construction and insulation of a modern composite door. To personalise the look, they selected a European rose handle and a chrome bullring knocker - subtle details that give the entrance a more refined, considered finish.
The difference was immediate. A warmer, more comfortable entrance, a dependable door system, and added reassurance as winter sets in.
Alongside the back door replacement, we’ve also been gradually replacing the original sash and case windows throughout the house. Rather than rushing the process, the family chose to upgrade at a pace that felt manageable - allowing each improvement to be carefully planned and installed over multiple visits.
It’s a beautiful family home, and our role has simply been to help it feel cosier, stronger and more comfortable for the years ahead - without losing the character that makes it special.
